Ulster History Park, Omagh, County Tyrone County Tyrone is one of Northern Ireland's 3 inland counties with a population of 153,000. Tyrone is one of the six counties making up Northern Ireland. Its main town is Omagh with other larger towns located at Cookstown, Dungannon, Pomeroy and Strabane. As is typical of the landscape of Northern Ireland, County Tyrone hosts diverse terrains. In the east there is low lowing fertile agricultural land bordering the beautiful Lough Neagh which forms the hub of the Northern Ireland counties. In the north-west there are many river valleys. Much of the county is hilly culminating with the peaks of the Sperrin Mountains at 2,000 feet on the County Derry border. Tyrone hosts a rich history of Celtic and prehistoric remains as well as a diverse range of tourist attractions and interesting places to visit. The main places of interest to visit include Gortin Glen, Dromore Mound, Arboe Monument, Sperrin Heritage Centre, Benburb Sunday (3rd Sunday of June), Coalisland, Ulster History Park and Moy Iron Gates.
