County Meath is situated on the east side of Ireland having borders with
counties Cavan, Monaghan, Louth, Dublin, Kildare and Westmeath. Its proximity to Ireland's
capital Dublin City and its location in the country make it a very popular place to live.
The county has a population of 110,000 with its main town being Navan. Other larger towns
are located at Kells, Trim, Slane and Tara. Much of the county is flat with some small
hills providing rich agricultural land suitable for farming. The coastal area of County
Meath is small bet nonetheless worth a visit. Being close to Dublin provides ample
opportunity for visiting the capital city and experiencing the delights of restaurants,
pubs and shops that are available. County Meath is easy to get to from Dublin's
international airport and is within easy driving distance of Dublin's ports making
travelling by car from the UK easy. Good roads provide good access to other parts of
Ireland and Northern Ireland. As with many of Ireland's counties, County Meath is
scattered with sites of historical and archealogical interest. The main tourist attractions and places to visit include Butterstream Gardens, King Johns Castle, Kells High Crosses, The National Ecology Centre Sonairte, The Hill of Slane, The Loughcrew Cairns, Newgrange Open Farm, The Hill of Tara, Bru Na Boinne Centre (Newgrange), Loughcrew Corstown and Trim Castle. |
