County Kilkenny is one of Ireland's inland counties with a population of
75,000. Its main urban centre is Kilkenny City with other larger towns located at
Thomastown and Callan. Once the capital of Ireland, Kilkenny the "Medieval City"
is famous for a strong tradition in crafts including Kilkenny beer, Kilkenny black marble
and hurling. Standing on the River Nore, there are numerous sites of historical and
architectural interest including its magnificent picturesque castle in the heart of the
city. Kilkenny hosts a number of festivals including the world famous Kilkenny Arts
Festival each August and the Murphy's Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in the early summer. The
bustling streets of Ireland's smallest city is a great place for socialising with many
hotels, restaurants, pubs, cafes, shops and music venues as well as a couple of theatres.
The lush green countryside of County Kilkenny offers superb fishing, golfing, horse racing
