County Kildare is situated on the east side of Ireland having borders with counties Dublin, Wicklow, Carlow, Laois, Offaly, Westmeath and Meath. Its proximity to Ireland's capital Dublin City and its location in the country make it a very popular place to live. The county has a population of 135,000 with its main town being Naas. Other larger towns are located at Athy, Kildare, Newbridge, Clane, Celbridge and Straffan. The River Liffey passes through County Kildare on its way to Dublin. Much of the county is flat providing rich agricultural grasslands and bogland. Being close to Dublin provides ample opportunity for visiting the capital city and experiencing the delights of restaurants, pubs and shops that are available. County Kildare is easy to get to from Dublin's international airport and is within easy driving distance of Dublin's ports making travelling by car from the UK easy. Good roads provide good access to other parts of Ireland. The main tourist attractions and places to visit include The National Stud & Japanese Gardens, Butterfly Farm, Steam Museum, Celbridge Abbey, Peatland World Museum, Coolcarrigan House & Gardens and Castletown House. |
