County Fermanagh is one of the three inland counties of Northern Ireland.
The population of County Fermanagh is approximately 54,000 with the main town being
Enniskillen. The river Erne passes through the centre of the county broadening out to form
Upper and Lower Lough Erne. The lakes are joined to the the Shannon providing great scope
for water activities and leisure cruising. Cuilcagh Mountain is the highest location in
the county at just over 2,180 feet with much of the remainder of the county being hilly.
In the west of County Fermanagh there are many cave systems. There are many ancient castles, raths and tumuli in County Fermanagh. On the Isle of Devenish, in Upper Lough Erne, is a ruined abbey. Visitor attractions include Florence Court, Sheelin Irish Lace Museum, Castle Coole, Marble Arch Caves, Enniskillen Castle, Killadeas Churchyard, Drumskinny Circle, Tully Castle and Crom Estate. The urban areas are Enniskillen, Belleek, Belcoo, Derryl, Irvinestown and Newtownbutler. |
