County Down is one of Ireland's most fertile counties. The Ards peninsula in the east shelters Strandford Lough with the beautiful coastline playing host to sandy beaches. The inland rivers provide ample opportunity for the fisherman. Walking, golf, castles, gardens and cathedrals are other pastimes and visits to be explored.

The population of the county is approximately 455,000 with the principal town being Bangor. The main town areas in County Down include Newry, Downpatrick, Bangor, Comber, Ballynahinch, Killyleagh, Killinchy, Newcastle, Banbridge, Warrenpoint, Dromore, Hollywood, Newcastle and Rostrevor. There are many interesting and historic places to visit in County Down including The St Patrick World Centre, North Down Heritage Centre, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Crawfordsburn Country Park, Nendrum Monastic Site, Somme Heritage Centre, Grey Abbey, Mount Stewart House and Inch Abbey.
